DID YOU KNOW? Natural gas can be turned into a liquid to make it easier to transport?

Natural gas takes up a lot of space in its gaseous form. So how do companies transport huge quantities of it across oceans?

They cool it to approximately −162°C, turning it into Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

At that temperature, natural gas becomes a liquid and occupies roughly 600 times less volume than it does as a gas.

That makes it possible to transport large quantities in specially designed LNG ships and regasify it at the destination.

Think about that: the same gas that takes up a huge amount of space can be compressed into a much smaller volume simply by cooling it!

That’s one of the ways natural gas travels from producing countries to markets around the world.
