Oil can be older than the dinosaurs.

Okay, not the oil sitting in your car today 😂, but the organic material that eventually became petroleum can be hundreds of millions of years old.

Long before humans existed, tiny marine organisms such as algae and plankton (if you watch SpongeBob like me, you’d have a visual of what a plankton looks like 😌) , died and settled on the seafloor.

Over millions of years, layers of sediment buried this organic matter.

With the right combination of heat, pressure, and time, that organic material was transformed into hydrocarbons, the foundation of the crude oil and natural gas we extract today.

So when we talk about finding oil underground, we're not just talking about something that has been sitting there for a few decades.

We're talking about a process that began millions of years ago.

Imagine waiting millions of years just to become someone's fuel tank. 😂

Oil really is a product of time.
