DID YOU KNOW?

Crude oil doesn’t all look or behave the same way.

When people hear “crude oil,” it’s easy to imagine one standard type of oil.

But crude oil can be light, medium, or heavy, depending largely on its density.

There’s also sweet crude and sour crude.

And no, we’re not talking about taste. 😂

Sweet crude contains relatively little sulphur, while sour crude contains more sulphur.

Why does this matter?

Because the type of crude affects how easy it is to refine, what products can be produced from it, and how much processing it may require.

So when you hear someone in the industry talk about “light sweet crude,” they’re not trying to make oil sound fancy.

They’re describing what kind of crude they’re dealing with.

Oil is oil… until you look a little closer.
