Welcome to my OIL & GAS TERMINOLOGY Class 😌
Today we are looking at EPC.
You’ll hear EPC thrown around constantly in oil & gas projects.
EPC stands for:
Engineering → Procurement → Construction
Simple enough, right?
But what does each part actually mean?
Engineering — designing the project. This could involve developing technical drawings, specifications, calculations and plans for the facility or infrastructure.
Procurement — sourcing and purchasing the equipment, materials and services needed to execute the project.
Construction — turning those plans and materials into the actual facility or infrastructure.
So when someone says:
“My Company was awarded an EPC contract…”
It basically means that company has been contracted to design it, source what is needed, and build it.
And EPC projects can be HUGE.
Think pipelines, processing facilities, refineries, offshore facilities and other major energy infrastructure.
Easy way to remember:
E = Design it
P = Get it
C = Build it
That's EPC.
Next up: EPCM, because yes, that extra “M” changes things.
Catch me next time to find out what the “M” stands for 😉
