Nigeria’s relationship with oil didn’t start with the first commercial discovery.

Oil exploration in Nigeria dates back to the early 1900s, when exploratory work was already being carried out around the country.

Think about that for a moment.

Nigeria’s oil story has now stretched for more than six decades of commercial production.

From Oloibiri to deepwater operations.

From a handful of early players to a huge network of operators, service companies, contractors and professionals.

From physical records and face-to-face transactions to digital platforms and increasingly sophisticated technology.

The industry has changed dramatically.

But one thing has remained constant:

Oil & gas has never been just about the oil.

It has always been about the people, companies, infrastructure, technology, knowledge and relationships built around it.

And perhaps the next chapter of Nigeria’s energy story will be about how well we connect all of those pieces.

History gives us the context. Technology gives us the opportunity to change what comes next.
