What Happens When a $20 Billion Offshore Opportunity Starts Moving Again?
For years, Bonga South West/Aparo has been one of Nigeria’s most anticipated deepwater developments.
Now, momentum appears to be building.
NNPC Limited and partners have signed agreements aimed at advancing the project toward Final Investment Decision. Current estimates place potential investment around $15–21 billion, with potential production of up to 175,000 barrels of oil per day and approximately 140 million standard cubic feet of gas per day. Those numbers are significant.
But I keep thinking about everything underneath them.
A project of this scale needs vessels, survey teams, drilling services, subsea contractors, ROV specialists, engineering companies, fabrication yards, logistics providers, inspection teams, technology firms, HSE professionals, project managers, and thousands of skilled workers.
That is where the real multiplier effect begins.
For Nigerian businesses, waiting until major contracts are announced may already be too late.
The smarter approach is preparation.
Understand the project.
Map the supply chain.
Identify decision-makers.
Build partnerships.
Strengthen capabilities.
Position early.
The biggest commercial opportunities are often visible long before the contract is published.
As Bonga South West/Aparo progresses, which capability should Nigerian companies be strengthening right now?
